Lifting off from Part 1.
So I didn’t wait for my iPhone + uncooked rice till Thursday. I read somewhere that it should be fixed by a pro ASAP! (Plus I turned it on and saw watermarks in my LCD plus these 4 thick yellow vertical lines on screen!!!! It gets worse the longer it is open! NOOOOOO!!!!!)
So I searched the web for someone who can fix my iPhone nearby the office. I can’t wait for the weekend since I am fully-booked with appointments, and would need my phone by then. Moreover, it’s as if I’m getting more sick when I see my iPhone still stuck in a lock-and-lock with rice. Oh my poor, poor iPhone.
Then, I came across Burn and Jhoy over at Philmug.
And of course I did a fair amount of research before jumping the gun – it was like have it repaired now or get a new one? But they will be releasing the new one soon, so might as well pay for repairs and wait. Now, you’d probably wondering why not send it t an apple store? It’s because of my warranty. My phone is not from my country, it is from Hongkong. YES. A lesson learned the hard way. But when I got it December last year, I wasn’t sure if I’d have a line, so I preferred an openline phone. (Mental note: Better to purchase it on place you can have warranty. Since I now have a line with my preferred telco, future purchases will be from them.)
Going back, I love researching in the web. I ended up with 2 choices: AJ Laptops OR Burn and Jhoy. I chose the latter over the former because of activity in the forums. The dates ranges back to early 2012 (I think even 2011),and now’s mid-2013. So I have to be sure that the business is still alive. It can be just archive threads, right? I did also more research, (Thank you Google!) and they have good reviews over repairs. So I quickly called up Burn to ask for prices, hoping they would pick-up. 🙂 He was nice enough to cater my questions. And this was on Tuesday.
I dropped by their store on Wednesday eve, with my friend. She didn’t want me to venture out like that alone (thanks for being there. I really appreciated it. :D). And I brought with me 2 devices to be fixed: my iPhone 5 and my son’s iPad 1st Gen (damaged screen – he dropped it). Burn was really nice to assist us with our concerns and gave a fair price, complete with sound initial diagnosis. Yes, my LCD’s totally busted. He handed my unit over to Ron, and he did the work. It was heartbreaking but interesting to see your phone in pieces. He did a good job in putting them back together when he placed the new LCD. And it was rather fast too. Then, he did the iPad 1st Gen. Plus, they provided me a 2 month-warranty for my replaced LCD.
After the fix, I ended up REALLY happy. My iPhone is fixed!!!!! But missed out testing the earpiece (where you hear the person you called), and they were rather happy to fix it for free, this time. (I even texted Burn around 11PM the night it was fixed for the first time on the problem, and around 10AM the next day to confirm that I will be dropping by. Thanks for being very friendly and approachable. )
So I went back yesterday (Thursday) to have it fixed again. This time, it was Jhoy who fixed my unit. He even was nice enough to explain to me what happened and what he did. Thank you! 🙂
-AND FINALLY! MY PHONE IS COMPLETELY FIXED! SO HAPPY!!! Thank you so much Burn for being very, very accommodating! And a big shout-out to Ron and Jhoy – thank you for fixing my phone! 🙂 🙂 🙂 I am a really happy customer.
Their calling card. In case you have any apple item to be fixed! (Photo from my fixed iPhone)
So far, no quirks in my phone! Will stress-test it more over the weekend, plus the iPad first gen. 🙂 So happy!
- iPhone 5 + Alcohol = broken phone
- iPhone 5 damaged by alcohol + Uncooked rice + waiting time = Still broken iPhone 5
- iPhone 5 + repaired by a pro = Fixed iPhone 5
- Fixed iPhone 5 = Happy Owner!
Summary feedback for Burn & Jhoy Cellphone and Services
- Very accommodating staff before and after service (I should know. I work in a QSR.)
- Knowledgeable repair team (complete with sound explanations on logic behind their actions on your item to be repaired)
- Fast service
- Reasonable pricing
- Easy to locate (won’t get lost to dozens of repair stores in Greenhills that might just run away with your hard-earned money)
Plus, there are a lot of customers that have their Apple products fixed there. If they ain’t good, then they shouldn’t have that much customers, and old customers going back with different items to be repaired. Same logic to food establishments, if they aren’t good, then there won’t be as much customers at any point in time.
So I hope this helps to souls like me who met an unfortunate predicament with their Apple device. 😀
